The Mount Eliza Ashram is a place of spirituality and inner healing.

People visit the Mount Eliza Ashram to practice meditation and yoga and to study spiritual philosophies like Kashmir Shaivism, Vedanta, and Self-inquiry, as taught by the great masters and ancient yogis. Seekers hear spiritual discourse and experience the Divine. It is a place where one realizes the highest potential of human life.

All are welcome.

The Ashram is open to the public and welcomes everyone with love regardless of race, religion, gender or philosophical leanings. Though The Ashram belongs to a Hindu lineage you do not have to consider yourself a Hindu to attend. Everyone can take a course or come to the programs.

The Ashram serves three principal groups of people: the residents, the community of meditators and the general public. Some live locally and others travel from Melbourne and even interstate and internationally.

Welcome from MM Swami Shankarananda

Dear ones,

We live in two worlds simultaneously, not one. These two worlds are the outer world of objects and other people, and the inner world of thought and feeling. This is a basic, but often overlooked, aspect of our existence. Everyone wants their inner world to be happy and peaceful, to achieve what I call, ‘the clear space of good feeling’.

Our cultural assumption is that our inner wellbeing is contingent on the success of our outer life; we think that if we handle our career, relationship and health issues properly we’ll be happy. Although it’s good to work at getting these areas of life in order, in reality, our inner happiness is completely independent of the external world.

To pursue inner happiness directly is the role of spirituality. Practise meditation and Self-inquiry and don’t be satisfied with superficial answers and external appearances.

If you are new to meditation and spirituality, I welcome you. I invite you to come and visit The Ashram and participate in the many programs that happen here.

With love, Swamiji
